So, you want to learn to earn?
Wonderful! You're taking your first step towards earning money and / or gift cards online and through apps. But I bet like most people, you have no idea where to start. Don't worry! This handy guide should hopefully get you off on the right track so you can start earning extra money while hanging out online! There are a lot of options available, some of which will work for you and some that won't, so try out as many as you can!
How much effort do you want to put into this?
This is the first question you need to ask yourself, because it will dictate which sites are the best for you and what you can expect out of them. The less effort you want to expend, the more passive the sites you should look for. But if you're willing to put the time and effort into earning, you can expect decent payouts! Each site requires a different amount of effort to achieve the desired results, so I recommend you try them all out for at least a short while. You'll figure out what works and what doesn't pretty quickly!
How much do I want (or need) to earn?
This should be your second question (and probably the most important one.) Typically, earning on these sites and apps is called earning 'beer money', or money that is meant only to be a little padding to your wallet and not as a steady income (some sites don't even pay in cash anyways!) If you are looking to earn a regular income from these sites, please turn away now! Sites and apps like these aren't meant to act as a replacement for a 'job', because without extreme dedication and vast networking, you probably won't net more than an extra $20 a month.
Now that you have these two questions in mind, lets look at some of the sites and app types we can try out!
GPT vs. PTC? Which is better?
To begin with websites, you need to look at GPT vs PTC. In layman's terms, they mean 'get paid to' and 'paid to click' (respectively). Both are fairly simple, but have drastically different payout rates and effort requirements. On average, GPTs will pay better for less effort, because they depend primarily on you to do the work. Typically you complete surveys, take polls and do basic tasks for people to earn points which can be redeemed for money through Paypal or gift cards.
On the other hand, PTCs have you clicking and viewing ads for a specified amount of time. Most sites will also offer surveys and tasks, but they are not the bulk of the websites payout opportunities. In general, PTCs pay better when you have the ability to gain multiple referrals (who will earn the bulk of your pay for you.) These means you need to have tens or hundreds of them, not just your mom and uncle. But payout is always in Paypal cash, not in gift cards.
Of course, GPTs will pay well if you have referrals too, but it is not necessary! Remember this when signing up for sites. Both are definitely things you should try out, because one may work better for you than the other!

So what about apps?
There are a variety of different earning apps out there and each will usually ask you for different things. Here are a few of the most common types:
- Survey Apps: Complete surveys for points, gift cards or cash. The surveys are usualyl open to a wide range of people, but you may have trouble qualifying for them.
Examples: QuickThoughts - Paid-to-Download: In essence, you are downloading other apps and getting paid to do so. These are a lucrative earner but also very iffy, as sometimes downloads don't credit and they come and go in a flash.
Examples: Tapbooty - Site-Associated Apps: Some GPT sites have accompanying apps that will let you earn more by watching videos. These are very useful.
Example: SBTV, EntertaiNOW
How else can I earn?
If none of these things are doing it for you, you can always take a look at some other sites:
- /r/slavelabour: A subreddit dedicated to tasks that users can complete for payment. These tasks are usually small, menial things and pay is not that high (typically below minimum wage.) It's good if you are wiling to do some small work for a little extra cash.
- /r/WorkOnline's Popular Sites List: This list is an amalgamation of sites that you can do online and get paid at least minimum wage for the work you complete (and sometimes better.) If you are looking for a relatively stable income online, this would be the place to start.
- /r/mturk: Mturk is not a program that I use but it is a decent earner for most online workers. You complete menial tasks (called HITS) for payment. The program is run by Amazon. You can also check out /r/hitsworthturkingfor to see well, HITS that are worth the payout!
In short:
In summary, the number of ways to earn are almost endless. But please remember to be careful when signing up and giving information to websites. Always use Google to check out the legitimacy of a website. Creditable sites will always have information online about their payouts and practices.
